Want an easy bike ride to start out?

Even just a 10 minute bike ride a few days a week will have you looking and feeling better by the end of the month. But if you're a beginner, you might feel daunted.

Fear not! I can show you a safe bike ride in your home town. I've been networking with bikers all over the United States, as part of a research project into safe and scenic bike rides. If one of them is near you, we can find you a ride. Just leave a comment if you're interested in trying this out, and I'll get back to you soon.

Thanks, Stephanie! I don't know much about riding a bike in Houston, but a lot of general tips are useful for bike commuting in any urban setting. First off, take the side streets and residential streets as much as you can. It will slow you down a little bit but you'll have a better, safer ride most of the time. The other tip is to stay in the middle of the road, making yourself as visible as possible, even you have to be rude. Better to be in their face than under their bumper.
